Lifeguard


St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children is currently seeking a Per Diem, Lifeguard for the Aquatic Program located in Bayside, NY. The Lifeguard, under general supervision, ensures the safety of patients and therapeutic staff of the facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. They support the Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification. This position offers flexible working hours.


JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Opens the pool each day and closes it each evening, depending on schedule and hours.


2. Maintains constant surveillance of patients and staff within the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.


3. Provides emergency care and treatment as required, until the arrival of emergency medical services.


4. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.


5. Performs various maintenance duties as directed, to maintain a clean and safe pool environment.


6. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.


7. Monitors the pool for appropriate concentration of chemicals on a regular schedule.


8. Monitors pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identifies any safety issues.


9. Directs swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions.


10. Maintains a clean environment in and around the pool.


11. Provides assistance to aquatic therapeutic team when appropriate or necessary.


12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Formal education required:


High school diploma or GED equivalent required


Current and valid ARC certification


First Aid and CPR certifications


Previous experience required:


2+ years lifeguard experience preferred


Flexible schedule required


Knowledge and Abilities



  1. Able to read, write and speak the English language.


  2. Able to work as a member of a team.


  3. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.


  4. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.


  5. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.


  6. Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.


  7. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.


  8. Able to support the concept of family centered care.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
